Omar Marmoush was rumoured with a move to Liverpool for quite some time, yet it’s Manchester City who have won the race for the highly-sought after winger.
The reigning Premier League champions this week announced the signing of the Egyptian international from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported £59m, with Liverpool keeping tabs on signing Marmoush this January before it became clear that City were going to land the forward.
With Marmoush an international teammate of Mohamed Salah’s, comparisons between the two have been rife ever since the 25-year-old attacker burst onto the scene in the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg and then Frankfurt.
Indeed, Marmoush could have been a dream signing for Liverpool to compliment Salah, and the new City signing has now made a claim about the Anfield no. 11 having officially joined the Manchester side.

Marmoush says Salah has made the Premier League the biggest league in Egypt
Speaking to City’s official YouTube channel, Marmoush claimed that Salah is a key reason behind the Premier League’s popularity in Egypt, with the former Bundesliga star excited to carry the flag in England with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Marmoush said: “Representing my country at a big club like this was something I always dreamed of. [Now] my dreams are becoming a reality of being [the first Egyptian] at Manchester City and I hope I can keep up this level.
“The Premier League is for us in Egypt the biggest league and the most followed league because of my team-mates like Mo Salah and other Egyptian players that have played in the Premier League.
“Most of the players growing up, our dream is to be here and that is why it makes me so happy that I am here to reach this beautiful league.”
How has Marmoush compared to Salah this season?
With Marmoush and Salah both direct, fast and clinical wingers hailing from Egypt, it’s no real surprise that the two have been compared to one another on more than one occasion, especially when it became clear that the 25-year-old was wanted by Liverpool.
| Mohamed Salah’s 2024/25 stats | Omar Marmoush’s 2024/25 stats | |
| Games played | 31 | 26 |
| Goals | 22 | 20 |
| Assists | 17 | 14 |
And when looking at the two player’s stats for this season, there isn’t much to separate the pair, with Marmoush one of the few attackers in Europe this campaign who has come even remotely close to matching Salah’s insane levels of output.
Whether or not the winger can translate his Bundesliga form to the Premier League is another story entirely, though, and Salah will no doubt be interested to see how his international teammate does at his new club in Manchester.
