Liverpool booked their place in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League after they secured a 2-1 win against Lille at Anfield.
The Reds are in a good position to finish top of the group and need just a draw against PSV Eindhoven on matchday eight to confirm their place at the top of the pile.
Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock with a fantastic dinked finish in the first half, but Jonathan David was on hand to equalise for the Ligue 1 team as they restored parity against the run of play despite Aissa Mandi’s red card.
However, Harvey Elliott’s deflected effort a few minutes later turned out to be the winning goal as the Reds made it seven out of seven in Europe under Arne Slot.
Salah was once again on hand to get his name on the scoresheet and Daniel Sturridge has shared what he thought of the Egyptian when he first joined the club.
Daniel Sturridge raves about Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool career

Sturridge and Salah played together for two seasons and won the UEFA Champions League together during the 2018-19 campaign under Jurgen Klopp.
The Egyptian has been a consistent performer for Liverpool since his arrival and judging purely based on his numbers, he has been one of the best players in world football in that period.
Salah’s first season was one for the history books and he has somehow managed to keep producing the end product, making him one of the most productive players in the world.
However, Sturridge says no one predicted Salah to establish himself as one of the greats of the game when he first joined Liverpool in 2017.
“When you look at Mo, when he came to the club, I don’t think I or any of his teammates thought he’d be what he is today,” said Sturridge on Prime Video.
“He’s gone from strength to strength and is a fantastic human being. He’s driven to be a great player.
“For me, Mo is an incredible football player – one of the greatest players to play for Liverpool – and he will go down in history as one of the best players in world football because what he’s doing is absolutely ridiculous.”
Salah’s Liverpool numbers so far
Robbie Fowler described Salah as an ‘incredible’ player and that is high praise coming from one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
| Mo Salah stats | Apps | Goals | Assists | Mins played |
| Liverpool FC | 380 | 233 | 105 | 30.747′ |
The Egyptian has shown no signs of slowing down despite entering his 30s and is set to have his most productive season at the age of 32, proving that he’s aging like fine wine.
Liverpool are locked in talks to renew Salah’s contract and must do everything they can to tie him down for the long haul as there isn’t a player out there who can replicate what he does on the pitch for the club.
