Liverpool lead 1-0 against LOSC Lille in their penultimate UEFA Champions League league phase game of the season.

Anfield has bare witness to an entertaining contest on Merseyside with the French side heading to the Premier League leaders on an astonishing 21-game unbeaten run, though that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from taking the lead through Mohamed Salah.

With the likes of Steve McManaman worried about Salah’s Liverpool form of late, the Egytian winger silenced the doubters with an excellent finish to put Arne Slot’s side ahead going into halftime with his 50th European goal for the Reds.

And Stephen Warnock was left with egg on his face after making a comment about Salah’s performance just moments before the winger scored.

Salah looked ‘half a yard off’ moments before scoring Liverpool opener

Speaking on BBC Sport’s coverage of the match, the pundit noted that Salah looked ‘half a yard off’ with the 32-year-old attacker seeing multiple passes go astray as well as wasting a number of decent chances in the final third.

However, the commentator’s curse struck again for Warnock as Salah fired Liverpool ahead mere moments after the pundit made his eternal comments, with the winger making his first goal contribution in four games.

Indeed, Salah is on course for his best season yet with Liverpool and the forward finally returning to the scoresheet will be vital for the former AS Roma superstar in leading the Reds to success in what might be his final year at Anfield.

Warnock said: “Mohamed Salah has just been half a yard off. There have been a few times where Liverpool haven’t committed to the final pass and they have been a little bit safe and it has allowed Lille to get back into position.”

Salah’s first-half performance vs Lille by numbers

Salah might be the hero once again on Merseyside for the Reds having put Liverpool ahead at the break, yet the numbers from the winger’s performance in the opening 45 minutes show that the forward did indeed struggle against Lille.

Salah’s passing has been way below par compared to what Liverpool fans are used to from the former Chelsea man, with the 32-year-old yet to create a chance against the French side despite seeing plenty of the ball for Liverpool.

Indeed, Salah will want to add to his tally in the second-half against Lille, and with the Liverpool icon capping the opening 45 with a goal, there’s every chance that the Egyptian international can go on to score one or even two more goals at Anfield this evening.
