Gary Lineker reveals texts from Liverpool fans after Nottingham Forest draw and gives Premier League title prediction

Liverpool need to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Brentford on Saturday.

The Reds have been in patchy form of late, having won one of their last four games in all competitions.

Back-to-back draws in the Premier League have allowed Arsenal to claw the gap back to four points at the top of the table.

The latest of those stalemates came away at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, with Liverpool doing well to come back from a goal down at Nuno Espirito Santo’s in-form team.

But after the Reds were denied by a superb goalkeeping display from Matz Sels, the result still felt like a case of two points dropped.

And as the title race gets a little tighter, Gary Lineker has revealed that he knows some Liverpool fans who are starting to get nervous.

Tuesday’s result at Forest will look a whole lot better if Liverpool are able to take three points from Brentford.

Anything but a win in West London, though, and the jitters will really begin.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football on Friday, Lineker claimed that according to some of his Liverpool-supporting friends, Arne Slot’s team are already ‘blowing it.’

“I had two or three Liverpool fan friends of mine, a couple of them went ‘we’re blowing it aren’t we,'” said the former England striker.

“No, you’ve got a 1-1 draw away at a team that’s one of your closest challengers, that is not a bad result! You know what fans are like, it’s either wonderful or terrible.”

Refuting the view of his mates, Lineker said that he still makes Liverpool favourites to lift the Premier League trophy in May.

“They’ve had a dip in where they were but they’re not losing games, they’re still playing well. No one’s making a real run at them anyway, not on that basis,” he argued.

“I still think they’re going to take some stopping.”

Liverpool must beat Brentford

Lineker is right, of course, Tuesday’s result was fine. Given the form Forest went into the game in, a draw was always going to be an okay result.

However, Liverpool absolutely must back that up with a win against Brentford at the weekend.

The Reds could go into the game having been closed down further by Newcastle, who can move to within six points of the leaders if they beat Bournemouth in the day’s early kick-off.

Even if Newcastle do not record a 10th straight win, Liverpool must do the business at the Gtech. Arsenal have a tough home game with Aston Villa later in the day and the Reds simply have to keep the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s team to win every game.

The dropping of more points would still not be fatal for Liverpool, but it would feel like another big blow.
