Liverpool’s January transfer window has been a quiet one despite the rumour mill running at full speed in recent weeks.
The Reds have been linked with a number of exciting players with Liverpool making a move for Bologna’s Sam Beukema as Joshua Kimmich’s representatives have approach the Anfield side over a potential move to Merseyside later this year.
With Liverpool also linked with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Arne Slot seems intent on improving his squad at some point in 2025, with the Reds currently top of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League standings and looking good in the League Cup and FA Cup.
And Liverpool have now decided to improve on one position that Jamie Carragher will be very pleased about.
Liverpool ready to upgrade the left-back position this year
According to the Athletic, Liverpool have made improving the left-back position a high priority this year, with Carragher recently sharing his concerns with the role after Andy Robertson’s drop-off in form and Kostas Tsimikas’ injury problems this season.
With Carragher also urging Liverpool to sign Antonee Robinson after the Fulham defender’s incredible run of form this campaign in the Premier League, it’s clear that the left-back position is one that could do with some work either this January or in the summer transfer window.
Indeed, Liverpool have been linked with plenty of players who could thrive in the role in recent weeks, with Michael Owen also critical about Robertson’s form this season in what has been a year to forget for the Scottish international.
Yet with Liverpool now making the role a priority for the transfer market this year, it might not be long before Slot has a new player in through the door to really challenge Robertson and Tsimikas for the position, a battle that will be most interesting to watch for supporters.
Which left-backs have Liverpool been linked with this January?
As mentioned, Liverpool have not been short of transfer links this January, and this extends well into the left-back market, where the Reds seem to have been rumoured with the majority of promising players in the position.
Liverpool are believed to be advancing for Patrick Dorgu after yet another stellar season with US Lecce, whilst the Reds continue to be linked with Milos Kerkez following the AFC Bournemouth defender’s rise as one of the most promising players in the Premier League.
With Liverpool also eyeing El Hadji Malick Diouf, all signs point towards the Anfield side signing a young left-back in 2025, and the sooner this piece of business is done, the better the Merseyside giants can prepare for the future and for next season, which is already promising to be a good one.
