The summer transfer window didn’t turn out to be an eventful one for Liverpool, but they were involved in a strange transfer saga in the dying embers of August.

After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, Federico Chiesa was the only player who was snapped up by Arne Slot, with the Italian joining the club from Juventus.

However, around that time, Liverpool were on the verge of signing Cesar Huerta, although the transfer never came to fruition.

And now, the Mexican international has finally secured a transfer after his rather heartbreaking episode with the Reds in the summer.

The forward, who was at Mexican club Pumas at the time, was heavily linked with a transfer in the summer.

Liverpool wanted to sign Huerta and loan him out to Sunderland, but the deal fell through as the Championship side didn’t agree to snap him up temporarily.

It so happened that Huerta remained at Pumas after his disappointing incident with the Reds, but that wasn’t the end of the saga.

Huerta’s agent admitted his client deserved better after his failed Liverpool move as he continued to be on the lookout for other clubs in Europe.

And now, the Mexican international has finally secured a transfer, with Belgian side Anderlecht announcing his capture on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

We can’t claim to have watched too much of the Mexican international, but with Liverpool already boasting six attackers at the time, it was quite baffling to see them linked with another player in that position.

Huerta hasn’t played any football outside Mexico yet and is already 24, making it hard to see exactly why Liverpool were interested in the first place.

The transfer failed for reasons beyond Liverpool’s control, but now, Huerta has finally secured his big European move.

The Mexican international described himself as an ‘intelligent’ player (via Marca) and will look to show exactly why the Reds were interested in signing him at his new club.
