Mohamed Salah is playing some of the best football of his Liverpool career and has taken his game to another level under Arne Slot.

Earlier this season, Salah said he was disappointed with Liverpool as at the time, he wasn’t offered a new deal at the club.

Now, the Egyptian – along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – have all been offered new deals, but they are no closer to signing on the dotted line.

As his contract continues to wind down, Salah claimed yesterday that this is his last season at Liverpool, which is factually correct as he hasn’t yet agreed an extension.

Understandably, his comments became a huge talking point as fans and pundits had their say on the matter.

When quizzed about Salah’s comments, Burley claimed the Egyptian is playing an absolute blinder with his public pleas to get what he wants from Liverpool.

“The Liverpool executives – they are lying on the floor at the moment,” said Burley on ESPN FC.

“They’re almost in tears because they’ve probably made this guy the most magnificent offer and he is screwing them to the ground. He doesn’t have to say anything.

“There’s a big game this weekend – he could have let his representatives say yay or nay behind the scenes.

“He’s not serving the ball back over the net to Liverpool, he’s throwing a hundred balls up and serving an ace with every one of them.

“He’s holding Liverpool to a huge ransom at this moment so this is a very difficult scenario financially.”

What next for Salah?

Liverpool know they can’t afford to lose a player like Salah, but he is already the highest-paid player in the club’s history, so it remains to be seen how the two parties will reach a middle ground.

The Egyptian will undoubtedly want a pay raise after his unbelievable start to the season, but the Reds will be wary of the fact that he’s turning 33 in a few months.

All in all, with Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold’s contracts also expiring, Liverpool have put themselves in an impossible position and have their work cut out for them in the coming months to retain arguably their three most important players.
