Liverpool have enjoyed a dream start to life under Arne Slot, with the Reds flying high in all competitions under the Dutchman.

Slot has guided Liverpool to the top of the Premier League and Champions League tables, while the Merseyside outfit are also into the League Cup semi-final.

Slot’s stunning tactics have been highlighted as key to the success, with the manager having barely put a foot wrong so far.

Liverpool have lost just once under Slot, with former hero Jurgen Klopp now a distant memory at the Anfield club.

A total of 45 points have been collected from 18 Premier League matches after 14 wins, three draws and one loss.

Troy Deeney backs Liverpool to hit 100 Premier League points

And that is a record that has caught the eye of Troy Deeney, who discussed their potential points tally when naming his Premier League Team of the Week.

Selecting attackers Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz from the 5-0 win over West Ham, he said: “Another game, another goal, another assist. Both of them just look like football is too easy for them.

“They’re really enjoying themselves, Liverpool are enjoying themselves. We’re in the midst of seeing something special with this team on 45 points with a game in hand at the turn of the year. They could break 100 very, very easily and they could run away with the title.”

Can Liverpool recover from unwanted Premier League points record?

Manchester City hold the record for most Premier League points in a season, having clinched 100 on their way to the 2017/18 title.

Anything more than that this season for Liverpool would then be a new record, but Slot won’t be thinking about that issue at this moment in time.

Many of the Anfield faithful will, however, already be thinking about bringing the iconic trophy back to Merseyside this season.

The Reds hold a very unwanted record in the competition, with their 97 points secured in 2018/19 the most in a season without winning the title.

Their rivals Manchester United meanwhile collected just 75 points in 1996/97, the fewest points to win the title, but that looks like being surpassed by Slot’s side this time around.
