What injury Joe Gomez looks like he’s picked up after being subbed off for Liverpool v West Ham

Liverpool enjoyed an excellent first-half against West Ham, heading into the interval with a 3-0 lead.

In reality, the scoreline could have been even better for the Reds, with Mohamed Salah missing a brilliant chance early on.

Salah made amends just before half-time to send Liverpool into dreamland. However, it was not all positive news for Arne Slot at the London Stadium.

With Ibrahima Konate still missing through injury, Joe Gomez once again started in the heart of the Liverpool defence.

But with 37 minutes on the clock, Gomez was forced from the field to be replaced by Jarell Quansah.

Bad news for the centre-back, and taking to X shortly after Gomez’s withdrawal, journalist Lewis Steele explained what the problem looks to have been for Liverpool’s No.2.

Joe Gomez picks up hamstring problem

Liverpool could not really have asked for a better 45 minutes in East London.

The Reds were almost perfect at both ends of the pitch, pressing West Ham into oblivion and peppering Alphonse Areola’s goal.

For Gomez, though, it was game over with the score still at 1-0.

And according to Steele, it unfortunately looks like a hamstring injury.

“Jarell Quansah getting ready to come on and replace Joe Gomez who seems to have pulled his hamstring,” reports the journalist.

We’ll wait to see the severity, of course, but it feels unlikely that Joe will be back for the Man United clash next weekend.

Will Ibrahima Konate be back to face Man United?

Gomez has been brilliant standing in for Konate since the Frenchman’s injury in November.

Injury-riddled throughout his Liverpool career, the 27-year-old looked to have put those worries behind him.

But having been spotted clutching at his hamstring after pulling up against West Ham, Gomez could be set for a spell on the sideline.

For the time being, that will leave Slot with just two fit, senior centre-halves in his Liverpool squad.

Thankfully, it looks like Konate is not too far away from a return. Given that there’s now a week before the Reds play again, fans will be hopeful that the No.5 will be back in time. If not, Jarell will get another chance to shine.
