What Danny Ward was spotted doing in Anfield tunnel after Liverpool’s win against Leicester City

Liverpool and Leicester City played out an entertaining game of football at Anfield on Boxing Day as the Reds ran out 3-1 winners.

The Reds are now six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand and will look to sign off on a high this year as they prepare to face West Ham United away from home tomorrow.

The game against Leicester City had another intriguing subplot, with former Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward returning to Anfield, this time as an opposition player.

And the Welshman was spotted enjoying a lovely embrace with some of his former teammates at a place he once called home.

With Mads Hermansen injured, Ward started against Wolves and endured a torrid night as the Foxes were beaten 3-0.

For the game against Liverpool, Ruud van Nistelrooy opted to give Jakub Stolarczyk his Premier League debut at Anfield, with the young goalkeeper preferred to the experienced Ward.

And while Stolarczyk made a few saves and endured a decent debut despite the result, losing his place to a youngster certainly wouldn’t have been on Ward’s mind.

Nevertheless, the Welshman was spotted in the Anfield tunnel after the game chatting with Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson, with the Scot quipping ‘See you soon’ after their interaction as seen below in the video.

Ward’s Liverpool career in numbers

Ward made just three first-team appearances for Liverpool, but there was a moment in the summer of 2018 when the Anfield faithful thought he would replace Loris Karius as the first-choice.

However, that wasn’t to be as the Reds broke the bank to sign Alisson Becker, who has been indispensable between the sticks for Liverpool since.

Ward has been at Leicester since 2018 and has played 52 times for the Foxes since joining the club from Liverpool.
