Liverpool enjoyed an entertaining 6-3 win against Tottenham, with Dominik Szoboszlai one of the stars of the show for the Reds.

The Hungarian international scored and assisted for Arne Slot’s side as Liverpool ran Tottenham ragged in north London, with Mohamed Salah creating Premier League history after bagging a brace and two assists of his own.

With Szoboszlai lauding Slot and the work the Dutchman has done at Liverpool, it was a performance to remember for the former RB Leipzig midfielder, who despite being a regular this season has yet to really show his true quality.

And Glenn Murray was impressed with what he saw from Szoboszlai as the 23-year-old was seemingly used in a new role.

Szoboszlai ‘exceptional’ for Liverpool in ‘almost’ false nine role

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker noted how Szoboszlai was causing Tottenham problems throughout the game in an apparent false nine position, with the youngster constantly driving at the north London side and getting through with ease.

With Alexis Mac Allister praising Szoboszlai after his Liverpool performance against Tottenham, the former Bundesliga maestro enjoyed arguably his best game of the season yet this weekend, and the role the 23-year-old played could be the start of something new for the Reds.

Murray said when analysing Szoboszlai’s performance for Liverpool against Tottenham: “A lot of Liverpool’s attacking quality has had high praise this season, but Szoboszlai for me was absolutely exceptional.

“Everything ran through him, he was almost in a false nine position, he was always trying to get into the box, he did that all afternoon and Spurs just never got through to him. All afternoon he did this, Spurs just could not get close to him, Liverpool’s no. 8 was absolutely terrific.”

Szoboszlai’s performance against Tottenham was the best we’ve seen yet from the Hungarian international since Slot’s arrival at Liverpool earlier in the year, with the midfielder showing the world just how good he can be in the right system and in the right role.

And praise of the Liverpool no. 8 has been high since the full-time whistle, with AFC Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez lauding Szoboszlai on social media with the rumoured Reds’ target impressed with what he saw from his fellow countryman.

Indeed, Szoboszlai has shown he has the talent to be unstoppable in the Premier League, now it’s up to the likes of Slot to get the midfielder to play at a consistent level where performances like this are the norm for the former Leipzig star.
