Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are integral to Liverpool’s spine and have been in fine form under Arne Slot this season.

While Van Dijk took over as club captain after Jordan Henderson and James Milner’s departures last, Salah remains part of Liverpool’s leadership group alongside the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker.

The two players also captain their respective national teams, due to which they were eligible to vote for the Best FIFA Awards.

As Vinicius Jr took centre stage by being crowned Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year, Salah and Van Dijk’s votes have emerged after the ceremony concluded last night.

In the Men’s category, Vinicius Jr finally got his hands on a personal accolade after missing out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or to Rodri.

As the Brazilian was named Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was named Coach of the Year, having spearheaded his side to glory in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho won the Puskas Award, while Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was named as the best goalkeeper.

Spanish newspaper AS released the list of all the votes from the captains as Liverpool fans eagerly looked out for Van Dijk and Salah.

For the Best Men’s Player of the Year award, the Dutchman voted for Vinicius, Erling Haaland and Rodri in that order, while Salah went for Vinicius, Rodri and Dani Carvajal.

The Liverpool duo unanimously agreed that Vinicius was the best player in the world, which is probably deserved after his exploits for Real Madrid last season.

Van Dijk and Salah were arguably two of Liverpool’s best players last season in what turned out to be Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.

The Reds won the Carabao Cup and were pushing for a quadruple until the business end of the season but fell desperately short as injuries caught up with them post-April.

No Liverpool player was named in the Best FIFA Men’s XI, with Haaland, Rodri, Ruben Dias and William Saliba the only Premier League players to earn a mention.
