Former Liverpool coach who left with Jurgen Klopp confirms he was at Anfield for Reds 2-2 Fulham

Liverpool were left to rue an early sending off for Andy Robertson as they settled for a 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday.

The Reds were already a goal down to an Andreas Pereira strike by the time Robertson was sent off for a last-man foul on Harry Wilson.

From there, Liverpool did well to pick themselves back up. Cody Gakpo equalised early in the second-half, but it looked like it would count for nothing when Rodrigo Muniz struck with 14 minutes to go.

Once again, though, the Reds showed why they are clear at the top of the Premier League, Diogo Jota marking his long-awaited injury comeback with a well taken goal.

That’s how it finished and as Arne Slot and the Liverpool coaching staff were left to pick the bones out of more dropped points, one of his predecessor’s main men was sat watching from the stands.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Jurgen Klopp’s long-time goalkeeping coach John Achterberg confirmed his return to Anfield to watch the game.

John Achterberg watches Liverpool again

Achterberg was on the Liverpool staff for 15 years and was a staple during Klopp’s years with the club.

The Dutchman left along with Jurgen, though, replaced by Fabian Otte as Liverpool’s primary goalkeeping coach.

Since then, Actherberg has taken up a position with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq.

With the Saudi Pro League club currently on a winter break, however, the 53-year-old revealed that he had returned to Liverpool to watch Saturday’s ding dong.

“Great to be back and watch the boys,” he wrote. “The Same pressure in the stand as on the bench! Good come back of the boys.

“Thanks LFC to have me back YNWA.”

When will Jurgen Klopp return to Anfield?

After spending so long at the club, it’s nice to see Achterberg now taking in proceedings as a fan.

However, the question now remains of when Achto’s old boss Klopp is going to come back himself to watch a game.

Jurgen promised he’d be back before long to take in a match on the Kop.

However, with the 57-year-old now set to take up a new position with Red Bull in January, time is running out a little for him to do that before getting back to work.

Jurgen is obviously welcome at Anfield however and whenever he likes, and it would be great to see him when he’s next on Merseyside.
