Paul Merson says something ‘massive’ could be about to happen in the Premier League after Liverpool vs Everton is called off

Storm Darragh played spoilsport as Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Everton was called off earlier today.

Arne Slot will have to wait a bit longer for his first taste of the Merseyside derby, with the date of the rearranged fixture yet to be announced.

Liverpool would’ve been itching to return to the field to make amends for their 3-3 draw against Newcastle United but will only be afforded the opportunity to do so in the Premier League next week against Fulham.

Their other Premier League rivals, however, will all play this weekend.

And Paul Merson feels the coming days could really define the course of the title race this season.

Paul Merson fires Liverpool warning after Merseyside derby postponement

Liverpool had a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League table after their 2-0 win against Manchester City, but the gap was cut short to seven last week as they dropped points against the Magpies.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are the Reds’ competitors for the title as things stand and each of those teams secured wins last weekend.

With Liverpool not playing this weekend. the aforementioned teams have a great chance to further reduce the gap at the top of the table.

Merson feels the Reds’ title competitors will look to make their opportunity count, adding that he expects each of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City to win their respective games this weekend.

He wrote on X: “I’m doing Man City game massive game win today down to 6 pts when could have been 12pts behind before kick-off, massive weekend now for Man City Arsenal and Chelsea I think they will ALL WIN.”

What does the Premier League table look like?

Liverpool are seven points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea, who are currently level on points. Man City are nine points behind the Reds currently but could reduce that gap to six if they manage to beat Crystal Palace.

Arsenal, on the other hand, head into the game against Fulham as overwhelming favourites, while Chelsea, once again, have been in good form and will fancy their chances against an inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur side.

Liverpool will have a game in hand but the gap could be as little as four points before they kick a ball in the Premier League next.

With three teams hot on their heels and games set to come thick and fast between now and the turn of the year, Arne Slot’s side suddenly don’t have as much of a cushion as was the case before they dropped points against Newcastle.
