Mohamed Salah can equal yet another record with a goal for Liverpool against Newcastle

Liverpool have the chance to consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League by beating Newcastle on Wednesday.

The Reds have had a remarkable beginning to the season, flying into a nine point lead and installing themselves as title favourites.

That tag may come under duress on Wednesday, though, with a trip to St James’ Park never the easiest.

Still, Liverpool will be confident that they can get another good result before a final Premier League Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Saturday.

One man who will be looking forward to the game more than most will be Mohamed Salah, who is on something of a hot streak.

Salah has eight goals in 14 games against Newcastle and the Egyptian has the chance to equal his own record with another this midweek.

Mohamed Salah ready to equal another record

Salah is quite possibly the best player in the world right now. He has certainly played his way into that conversation of late.

Having recorded 11 goals and seven assists in the Premier League, he is three clear of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka at the top of the goal contributions stakes.

And as per liverpoolfc.com, one more added to the goals column on Wednesday would be a significant one.

Should Salah score at St James’ Park, it would be a seventh successive Premier League game in which he’d found the net in.

That would equal the 32-year-old’s record for longest streak of consecutive games scored in for the Reds.

Salah previously scored over seven matches in a row back in August to October 2021. A goal on Wednesday and another at Goodison would break that record.

Salah’s seven wonders of the Premier League

It is verging on unbelievable that Salah is still finding a way to equal or set new records at Liverpool.

The Egypt captain is already one of the best players in Liverpool history owing to the haul of titles he holds for the Reds.

This will perhaps be an important one for Mo, though, as it will mean getting closer to one Premier League record which he is yet to get anywhere near breaking.

The current holder of number of goals scored in consecutive games is Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, who plundered 11 in a row back in 2015.

Should Salah get another at St James’ Park, you can bet everything you own that he’ll be gunning for Vardy’s crown over the coming weeks.
