Liverpool and Manchester City have had one of the best rivalries in recent Premier League history, with Phil Foden in the thick of it for the Cityzens.

The 24-year-old England international has been a staple for Pep Guardiola’s side since breaking out of the academy and into the first-team, with Foden winning the PFA Player of the Year award last season having led City to their sixth Premier League title.

With Foden sad that Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool, the City star cleary has a respect for the Reds that few rival players would admit, with the attacking midfielder likely to feature later today at Anfield in what will be a huge Premier League clash.

And Foden has now named three Liverpool players he feared most during Klopp’s time on Merseyside.

Foden hails Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah

Speaking to the Times, Foden named Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as three of the hardest players he’s faced in the Premier League, with the City star noting that the trio were part of the toughest team he’s played against.

Klopp’s Liverpool pushed City for the Premier League title on numerous occasions, with the Reds the last team to win the championship who were not Guardiola’s side, with the Anfield giants going all the way in the 2019/20 season.

And for Foden, Firmino, Mane and Salah were three of the hardest players he faced during this era of Liverpool, with the trio regarded by many as one of the best-attacking threes the Premier League has ever seen.

Foden said: “It’s hard to say one player, but if I had to say a team it would be Liverpool when Mane, Salah, Firmino, were together — their team was sensational. The way they pressed. That was the toughest game, when we used to play them. Over a long period, Liverpool have been the ones that challenged us the most.”

The Premier League might not see another better attacking trio again

The Premier League have been blessed with some truly incredible attacking partnerships and trios, yet it’s hard to think of a collective more efficient than Firmino, Mane and Salah during their time together at Liverpool.

The three forwards were all world-class attackers at the same time at Liverpool, with each player bringing something unique to the table and using their skills and traits to help compliment one another with sensational results.

And there’s a real chance that the Premier League might not see another better-attacking trio in the coming years than what we saw with Firmino, Mane and Salah, who transformed Liverpool into the winning machines that they are now under Arne Slot.
