Liverpool are all set for a pivotal day in their Premier League season as they take on Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds have put themselves in a great position at the top of the table, leading City by eight points heading into the game.

With Pep Guardiola’s side now without a win in six, Liverpool have the chance to pile more misery on them and take an 11-point advantage into the rest of the campaign.

Former Reds striker Peter Crouch has backed Liverpool for a ‘resounding’ win at Anfield, predicting a 3-1 scoreline in favour of the Reds.

And Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer has weighed in on how he thinks the game will go.

Alan Shearer predicts Liverpool win

Liverpool have the rare feeling of being overwhelming favourites heading into a game against City.

While matches between the two sides are often tight affairs, it is usually the champions who are seen as the more likely winners.

Given the lead they currently have, though, the tables have turned ahead of Sunday’s match.

And Shearer is one of those backing Liverpool to do the business and potentially put another nail in City’s hopes of a fifth straight league title.

“Unless City tighten up and strengthen up in midfield, Liverpool could overpower them there,” Shearer predicts in Metro.

“There are so many great battles to look forward to. Whoever Pep decides to play at left-back has a huge challenge on hand also.

“With the form that Man City are in, Liverpool at Anfield and the forward options they have, I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool victory.”

Arne Slot set for centre-back decision

Although Liverpool are rightfully favourites to win given the form of these two sides, things are never easy against City.

And matters have been made worse for the Reds after suffering a couple of key injury problems in the lead-up to the game.

Conor Bradley is set to miss a month of action with a hamstring problem, while a knee injury has ruled Ibrahima Konate out for a little while longer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is ready to play and will have to be given that Joe Gomez is likely to start at centre-back.

Arne Slot has to pick between the England man or Jarell Quansah in Konate’s absence. But after some previously superb displays against City, we think Slot has to go with Gomez.
