Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard names Liverpool player as the toughest he’s faced in his whole career

Martin Odegaard is one of their key players and his recent return from injury will come as a huge boost for the Gunners.

And the Arsenal captain says a Liverpool defender is actually the toughest player he’s faced in his career.

Odegaard sustained an ankle injury while playing for Norway and missed over a month of action.

However, he’s back in the team and will look to spearhead the Gunners to another title challenge, although the gap at the top is already nine points with less than a third of the Premier League season played.

When asked to name his toughest opponent in a Q&A session with TNT Sport Odegaard named Virgil van Dijk without much hesitation, saying: “Virgil, a really tough one.”

Earlier this season, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer also named Van Dijk as his toughest opponent, so Odegaard is certainly not the only one who thinks highly of the Liverpool skipper.

Van Dijk has been in stunning form this season and has forged a fantastic partnership with Ibrahima Konate at the back.

The Dutchman has played every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game for Liverpool this season and has conceded just 12 goals across 16 games, which is a fantastic defensive record.

Liverpool are confident they can reach an agreement to extend Van Dijk’s contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
