It is not only current members of the Liverpool squad who Reds fans should be looking out for during this international break.

Liverpool have 15 players in senior action over the next week or so, with many of them having already played.

But as well as that group, the Reds also have a loan player making some enormous waves with his country. Step forward young Ben Doak.

Doak is doing well at Middlesbrough this season. The 19-year-old has plundered one goal and three assists in 10 games for the Championship side.

Doak’s good form has led to a regular place in the Scotland set-up, with the Liverpool youngster earning his fifth senior cap against Croatia on Friday.

Faced with Man City’s £77m defender Josko Gvardiol, it looked set to be a testing evening for Doak. But as seen in the reaction of fans on social media, the flying winger put in a jaw-dropping display to get the better of Gvardiol as the Tartan Army won 1-0.

Ben Doak gives Josko Gvardiol nightmare evening

Gvardiol has been having an impressive season himself with City. The 22-year-old has been a big threat in attack so far this term.

However, faced with the speed and direct running of Doak, Gvardiol simply could not get a grip on the Liverpool man.

“Ben Doak has just made £90m Gvardiol look like a championship LB for 90 minutes,” one fan commented on X, with another claiming “Josko Gvardiol has asked Croatia’s team doctor for sleeping pills after being up all night with terrifying nightmares about Ben Doak.”

“Ben Doak just taking home one of the most expensive defenders in the world in his back pocket,” added another supporter. “What a performance.”

Aside from his duel with Gvardiol, Doak also received praise for his wider performance, with fans desperate to see more of him going forward.

“Ben Doak is a generational talent. Very excited to see such a relentless player,” one supporter praised.

“Ben Doak is the most exciting player I’ve seen in a Scotland Shirt,” posed another.

Ben Doak earns Gareth Bale comparison

With fans falling over themselves to highlight just how good Doak had been, one amazed onlooker even suggested that the teenager could become ‘Scotland’s Gareth Bale.’

While that is high praise, others on X suggested as much, too.

“Ben Doak looks a real exciting talent, first time Scotland have had a young technical, pacey forward in a while,” was one supporter’s verdict. “Playing in the English Championship is probably the best place he could be for developing, competitive football constantly. Can’t help but feel Celtic let one slip.”

“First time I’ve had a Scottish player make me sit on the edge of my seat, and I’m 34 years old,” another chimed in.

“Never seen a player so unbothered by who he is up against, just running direct at the most expensive defender in the world, time and time again.”

Sensational stuff, Ben!
