Andy Robertson reveals the Liverpool player who new signings are always the ‘most excited’ to meet

Liverpool are lucky enough to call some of the world’s best players their own.

The Reds have built a wonderful group over the last seven or eight years, as evidenced by their current position at the top of the Premier League and Champions League.

But while every player within the Liverpool squad has played their part in that, there are one or two who sit a couple of levels above.

In terms of status within the wider game, the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker are true global superstars.

Each is a benchmark in his position and can be a real draw for enticing new signings into a move to Anfield.

Andy Robertson has now opened up a little glimpse into that world, naming the player he has seen new additions at Liverpool get the most excited about over the years.

Mohamed Salah the main attraction

This is an underrated part of why it’s so crucial for Liverpool to tie Van Dijk, Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold down to new contracts.

Regardless of what they offer on the pitch – which is still a colossal amount – the three players are an excellent advertisement for prospective new players to join the club.

And speaking in a brilliant new video released by Liverpool’s official YouTube channel on Wednesday, Robertson has revealed that signings are always the most stirred by a meeting with Liverpool’s Egyptian King.

“I don’t think it’s ever been discussed of Virgil does this, Mo does that, Ali does that,” says Robertson while discussing the leadership group at Anfield.

“Obviously, Virgil’s the captain and he leads the team out and he has to do a lot more than what we have to in terms of responsibilities.

“Ali’s crucial to us for the foreign players, the players that maybe don’t speak as much English to help them settle in where I’m no good at that, they don’t understand me!

“Mo, I think everyone comes in and probably the most excited person they are to see is Mo usually,” admits the left-back.

“The young players and new players and I think then they see how much he commits to his craft and I think they then take that onboard. I’ve seen so many players come in and all of a sudden they’re in the gym so early before training and that’s because of him.”

Liverpool can’t lose Mohamed Salah

There shouldn’t be any further arguments needed for why Liverpool have to give Salah new contract.

The 32-year-old is Liverpool’s top scorer and top assister yet again so far this season.

Salah became the first players in Europe’s top five leagues to hit double figures for goals and assists in 2024/25 on Saturday and he clearly still has so much to give.

But watching this full half-hour length video and you also come to see just how much Mo means to his Liverpool teammates and how much he clearly loves the club.

You can potentially replace Salah’s output on the pitch if you get really, really lucky with a new signing.

But there is not a single currently active player who can slot in and give the same to Liverpool as Mo does in each and every way. He, along with Van Dijk, is the heartbeat of this team and he must be kept at whatever cost.
