Liverpool fans certainly enjoyed their weekend after moving back to the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds turned things around to beat Brighton at Anfield while seeing both Arsenal and Man City lose their respective matches.

With things going phenomenally well during the early days of Arne Slot’s reign, there is only room for positivity at Liverpool right now.

Nevertheless, that positive mindset may have taken a slight knock on Sunday, when match-winner Mohamed Salah took to social media to send a cryptic message about his future.

With Salah bullish about Liverpool pushing to be champions this season, the Egyptian added ‘whatever happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like’ at the end of his post.

To some, this read like the beginning of a long goodbye. To others, it was a public throwing down of the gauntlet to the Liverpool owners. Steve Nicol is one who is never shy to give his opinion on current events and the former Reds defender has given his own take on Salah’s message.

Steve Nicol shares Mohamed Salah theory

It is relatively rare that Salah comes out to post something on social media.

The 32-year-old tends to pick and choose his moments very carefully and everything feels intentionally deliberate.

As a result, it’s hard to deduce that his ‘whatever happens’ quip had no hidden meaning in it at all.

Nevertheless, speaking on ESPN FC, Nicol says he believes that Salah was simply paying homage to the feeling of scoring a winner in front of the Kop.

“The atmosphere, the noise, that three, five seconds whatever it was that stays with you, is to me what he’s talking about there,” says the Liverpool legend.

“I just think it’s too easy to overanalyse it and say he’s saying bye bye.

“I understand where people are pulling that from, don’t get me wrong,” Nicol adds. “But I think it’s too easy to look that way and not reflect on, actually, that particular moment and that noise and that sound and what happened on the field at that time, these are things that never leave you, they are special. That’s what I’m saying.”

Crunch time coming for Liverpool and Salah

It’s getting towards the time where Liverpool supporters really need some clarity on what’s going on not only with Salah, but with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, too.

The longer this all continues, the more potential it has to become a sideshow for Liverpool.

With things going so well under Slot right now, the Reds need to stave away any kind of negativity.

The best outcome for the club remains all three players signing on to extend their stays within the Liverpool squad.

If that is not going to happen, then the fans deserve to know as soon as possible. Crunch time is coming. No more mystery, please, let’s have some facts.
