Liverpool youngster wows with ‘brilliant’ moment against Brighton in the League Cup

Liverpool booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the League Cup with an entertaining 3-2 win away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Cody Gakpo was the star of the show for Liverpool as Arne Slot returned to winning ways after Sunday’s 2-2 draw in the Premier League against Arsenal, with the Dutch coach able to heavily rotate the starting XI to rest key players,

Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley and Tyler Morton all started the match with Liverpool’s youngsters impressing at the Amex Stadium against an equally younger and impressive Brighton side, who gave the Reds a good game.

And pundit Lee Hendrie was left impressed by another Liverpool talent tonight on the south coast.

Liverpool’s Vitezslav Jaros singled out for praise after Brighton display

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, the former England international praised Vitezslav Jaros after one second-half save from the young Liverpool goalkeeper, who made his first professional start for the Reds.

Former Liverpool coach John Achterberg lauded Jaros after the 23-year-old made his surprise debut for the Anfield side earlier this month after Alisson Becker was forced off injured for the Reds, with the young goalkeeper impressing in his short cameo in the Premier League.

And Jaros again caught the eye tonight, with Hendrie saying: “What a save. He just hung in the air. I tell you what, [Simon] Adingra must think he’s scored. He literally hangs in the air but Jaros in goal, how on earth he manages to get that fingertip just to force it away from goal.

“It’s a brilliant save. He [Adingra] doesn’t do a lot wrong, he heads it back towards that far post and it’s a brilliant save it really is from Jaros, fingertips and just off the stem of the post.”

Jaros will feel he made a big step in his Liverpool career

Although Liverpool were unable to keep Brighton at bay, Jaros can hardly be blamed for the hosts two late strikes, with the Czech Republic youngster giving a really strong account for himself between the sticks.

And Jaros will feel like he took a major step in his Liverpool career in becoming a regular for the Reds in cup competitions, with the youngster looking the part in what was only his second professional appearance for the Merseyside giants.

Indeed, Jaros has a big future as a top-level goalkeeper, and the 23-year-old will feel proud of his performance tonight in what was a tough game for Liverpool’s backline against Brighton.
