Curtis Jones suggests Liverpool players are always asking him about Chelsea’s Cole Palmer

Liverpool have another big game coming up this weekend as they face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The match is another chance for the Reds to lay down a marker as one of the most likely title challengers this season.

It comes hot on the heels of Liverpool beating Chelsea at Anfield last Sunday, in a game which saw Curtis Jones really announce himself into the campaign.

The Liverpool academy graduate had had a quietly frustrating period during the early weeks of Arne Slot’s reign.

But Jones was in the thick of everything against Chelsea and put in a man of the match display.

Part of what was so impressive about the performance was that Jones dominated Chelsea dangerman Cole Palmer. A player who, as it turns out, his Liverpool teammates appear to have been asking him all about.

Curtis Jones makes Cole Palmer claim

Palmer had been in really good form heading into last week’s game. The 22-year-old was even named the Premier League player of the month for September.

However, Jones kept him quiet at Anfield, showing just what a talent he is.

Given that Jones and Palmer know each other well from the England youth teams, it perhaps should not have been a surprise that the Scouser would know the best way to snuff out his Mancunian opponent.

Despite getting the better of him this time, though, it’s clear just how highly Jones rates Palmer.

Asked by Sky Sports to speak about the three best ‘wonderkids’ he’s played with on England duty, Jones even suggested that Liverpool players have been to get the inside track on the former Man City forward

“I’m always asked about Cole a lot,” said the Reds midfielder.

“The lads always ask me about Cole, in training the lads always ask me about Cole.”

Curtis Jones raves about Anthony Gordon

As well as praising Palmer, Jones also gave a glowing assessment of former Liverpool target Anthony Gordon.

Gordon almost joined Liverpool over the summer and clearly Jones would have been delighted to see his ‘brother’ join.

“That’s my brother as well,” said the 23-year-old. “Ant’s one that I would say is underrated. The things you see him do, how fast he is, how sharp he is.

“Attackers are always spoken about how many goals have they scored, how many assists are they getting and how much of a threat they are as well. Ant 100 per cent he gets enough goals, gets enough assists but how hard he works when he goes to press, his running back and stuff, he’s overall an amazing lad and an amazing player.”

It would have been great to have seen Jones and Gordon link-up for Liverpool, but maybe that dream is not yet completely dead.
