Curtis Jones says he does something ‘every day’ at Liverpool but doesn’t get credit for it

Liverpool players have been showing the best versions of themselves under Arne Slot this season.

The Reds have begun life under the Dutch coach in blistering fashion, winning 11 of their first 12 games.

That fantastic form has put to bed questions over whether Liverpool could compete post-Jurgen Klopp and has left them in a good position in the Premier League and Champions League.

As well as the excellent work done by Slot, a lot of credit for the Reds’ laser-focused start has to lie with the Liverpool squad.

The players have put in the necessary yards to really get to grips with what the Liverpool head coach wants from each of them.

One who has shone over recent games is Curtis Jones. But after Jones’ top showing against Chelsea last weekend, the 23-year-old has suggested there’s something he deserves more plaudits for.

Curtis Jones reveals early starts

Jones had been put in the shade a little during the very early parts of the current campaign.

With Ryan Gravenberch excelling in his new deeper-lying role, the Scouser was left to contend with a niggling injury.

Now back fit, though, Jones really announced himself into the season with his match-winning turn against Chelsea.

The Liverpool academy graduate has developed enormously over the past few years and speaking to LFCTV, Jones suggested that people perhaps don’t realise the work he has put in to make that happen.

“I’m one of the early ones [at the Liverpool training ground] and I don’t be getting the credit for it!” laughs the midfielder.

“You know what I mean, they’re giving it to Mo [Salah] all the time, and I’m always in the gym at the same time as him!

“If there’s a day where I come in and I’ve not done it then I feel like I’ve cheated a bit or something isn’t right,” Jones adds. “It’s an every day thing.”

Does Curtis Jones get enough credit?

In fairness to Jones, we had no idea that he was such a hard worker at the gym. It is common knowledge that Salah is first in and first out, but this is the first we’ve heard of Curtis matching the Egyptian.

In many ways, it does speak to the possibly underrated nature of Jones within the Liverpool squad.

Part of that may be down to the fact that he has never fully been able to cement his place in the starting XI.

But when you see Jones deliver displays like the one against Chelsea, you realise that he is capable of being a very special footballer.

Perhaps a touch more – or maybe less – work is needed in the gym to shake off those pesky injuries. But when that finally happens. Jones is going to be a real problem.
