Liverpool have one of the best academies in England, with the Reds producing some top talents that have gone on to become stars in the Premier League and beyond.

Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a staple at Anfield and could be considered the best right-back in world football, with Curtis Jones another regular for Liverpool in recent years after coming through the club’s famed academy.

With the likes of Raheem Sterling, Suso and Conor Coady all having fantastic careers after coming through Liverpool’s academy before moving on, the Reds can be proud of the work they have done in developing some of the world’s best players.

And another player who came through Liverpool’s academy before leaving has now been tipped to become a legend for his country.

Former Liverpool star Harry Wilson backed to become Wales legend

Speaking to BBC Sport, Wales forward Sorba Thomas has backed attacking teammate Harry Wilson to become a legend for Y Dreigiau, with the 27-year-old attacker the match-winner in this international break against Montenegro.

Wilson left Liverpool for good in 2021 for Fulham in a £12m deal despite after failing to break into Jurgen Klopp’s senior plans, even with the winger impressing in various loan moves with the likes of AFC Bournemouth, Derby County and Cardiff City.

Now a regular for Fulham, though, Wilson has realised his potential as a Premier League player, and the former Liverpool man has now been tipped to become a legend for Wales and a potential successor to Gareth Bale’s title as the nation’s talisman.

Thomas said: “For me there is no better player than Harry Wilson to take [over after] the reign of the man himself, Gareth Bale. For me he [Wilson] is the best around. He is a talented guy, he is a pleasure to be around in the changing room – a happy, bubbly person. He is soon going to be a Welsh legend.”

Wilson has all the tools needed to become an icon for Wales

Wales might not see a player as good as Bale again in the next 20 years, with the former Real Madrid and Tottenham star potentially the greatest British footballer of all-time based on his achievements and his record for club and country.

Yet for Wilson, the former Liverpool wonderkid has all the tools needed to become an icon for Wales, something Craig Bellemy’s side need if they’re to push on in the post-Bale era and to qualify for major tournaments.

Indeed, Wilson has grown into himself since leaving Liverpool for good in 2021, and the Fulham winger has now taken on the role as Wales’ talisman with both hands, with his recent international form a sign that he is up for the task of taking on Bale’s role.
