Liverpool have started the season in fine form, with Arne Slot guiding the Reds to the top of the Premier League after six games.

Although Nottingham Forest inflicted a historic result on Liverpool, the Anfield side have been nothing short of impressive under their new manager, with Slot also securing good results in the UEFA Champions League and League Cup.

With the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz impressing greatly under the Dutch coach, Liverpool are looking like a well-oiled machine that could challenge for every piece of silverware this season if key players can remain fit.

Yet Micah Richards has picked out one Liverpool player who needs to improve if the Reds are to challenge.

Dominik Szoboszlai told to increase his output if Liverpool are to challenge

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the pundit highlighted Dominik Szoboszlai as the player who needs to step up if Liverpool are to really go for everything this season, with Richards saying the Hungarian international needs to boost up his goal and assist numbers.

Richards said: “I think just tactically for Liverpool, because Szoboszlai is playing in that no. 10 role, I think if Liverpool want to challenge all the way, I think his numbers are going to have to be ten goals, ten assists this season, realistically.

“I know Salah will get goals, Diaz has been in red-hot form, but even just the way Jota moves, the sort of sacrificing all the good of him. I like Jota, but I prefer Jota on the left. Diaz is playing so well.

“I think Szoboszlai in that free role, he has to get goals because he gets into good positions. If he can get the goals, then they can challenge.”

Szoboszlai knows he has to be more productive for Liverpool

With one goal and two assists in seven games this season, Szoboszlai knows he has to boost up his numbers in a big way if he’s to help Liverpool in their quest to win trophies in Slot’s first year in charge on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old has impressed in his new no. 10 role with Szoboszlai having a number of good performances in the Premier League and in Europe, yet the former RB Leipzig star needs to start getting more involved in the action.

Indeed, Szoboszlai has the quality to become one of the best players in the Premier League if he can unlock more skills to his arsenal, and Slot needs to ensure he can do this in the coming weeks with the attacking midfielder’s output numbers quite underwhelming so far.
