Alisson Becker is rightly regarded as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, with the Liverpool no. 1 fan favourite at Anfield.
The Brazilian international has been one of the most influential signings Liverpool have made in the 21st century, with Alisson a world-class goalkeeper who was instrumental to Jurgen Klopp’s UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs with the Reds.
Although Liverpool have a new goalkeeper coming in next year in Giorgi Mamardashvili, the odds of the Georgia international actually replacing Alisson remain very low, with the 31-year-old still very much at the top of his game.
Yet former Liverpool coach John Achterberg has been left stunned by one decision regarding Alisson earlier this month.

John Achterberg stunned Alisson was not nominated for the Yachin Trophy
Speaking to LFC Transfer Room, the former Liverpool coach shared his shock over Alisson not being nominated for the Yachin Trophy for a second year in a row, the Ballon d’Or equivalent for goalkeepers that the Anfield star has somehow not been shortlisted for this year.
Achterberg said on Alisson being snubbed for the Yachin Trophy: “Ali, you know, he has been the best in the world really for the last few years in my opinion. I can say that now because now I’m not his coach, but I look at it from the outside.

“It’s probably a little bit disrespectful that the last two years he’s not really involved in the Yashin Trophy, and I know it might be done only on the Champions League, but in the first year, he was definitely I think, in the Champions League and he was not even in the top ten.
“I’m not sure who is in charge there, but probably they don’t have a clue about goalkeeping too much because I think it’s really disrespectful that he’s not even in the top five, but you know, that’s for other people to decide.”

Alisson doesn’t need awards to prove his greatness
Although Alisson not being nominated for the Yachin Trophy is borderline insanity, personal accolades should not be what determines how great a player is throughout his career.
Alisson has proved for the past few years with Liverpool that he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world and potentially on course to become one of the greatest in Premier League history.
And although Alisson deserves to be nominated for awards such as the Yachin Trophy, the Brazilian will not let this trivial thing get in the way of his performances with the Reds, which this season have once again been fantastic.
