Liverpool were back to winning ways last night with the Reds securing a convincing 3-1 win in the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan.

Having suffered a historic loss against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Arne Slot knew he had to respond this week in Liverpool’s European opener, with a tie away at the San Siro hardly the easiest of fixtures for the Dutch manager.

However, even after going 1-0 down, Liverpool impressed against Milan with goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai securing three points for the Reds in their first Champions League game of the season.

And Alan Shearer was impressed by three Liverpool players in particular last night.

Shearer impressed with Liverpool’s midfield trio vs AC Milan

Speaking on Amazon Prime’s coverage of the match, Shearer noted how the midfield three of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Szoboszlai all impressed on the night for Liverpool against Milan.

The trio have been established this season as Slot’s first-choice midfield-three with Szoboszlai playing the advanced playmaker role with Mac Allister and Gravenberch dropping deep as two no. 6s, a system that is starting to work wonders for Liverpool.

And Shearer was very impressed with what he saw from the midfielders at the San Siro, with the pundit saying: “The midfield of Liverpool has done really well tonight, I think. Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.

“They have offered themselves a lot when Liverpool have gone on the attack. Other than the first five minutes when Milan scored, they have given great protection as well.”

Slot finding his perfect midfield already is huge for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp struggled at times last season to find the perfect balance in the midfield after such a big summer of change in the position, with the Reds bringing in Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai to replace the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Yet one year later and with Slot in charge, the new Liverpool manager has now found that perfect midfield for the Reds that could go on to become crucial for the Reds this season in all competitions.

Indeed,,Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai bring the ideal blend of youth and experience with every quality needed to get something done in the midfield, and this trio is only going to get better as the season progresses alongside Slot.
