Liverpool are watching on nervously this week as their players jet off around the world to play for their countries.

The Reds have 20 players who are in action this week, and they’ll be desperately hoping that they all return fit and well.

Part of Liverpool’s excellent start to the Premier League season has been their ability to keep pretty much all of the first-team squad injury-free during the first three games.

Only Curtis Jones has missed out so far, with Arne Slot and his coaching staff managing loads brilliantly.

However, with the international break only just underway, nerves will already be jangling back at Anfield as doubts have emerged over Alexis Mac Allister with Argentina.

Lionel Scaloni gives Alexis Mac Allister update

Mac Allister has been quietly brilliant in midfield for Liverpool so far this season.

The 25-year-old has perhaps not quite caught the eye as much as Ryan Gravenberch or Dominik Szoboszlai, but he has been equally as effective.

ESPN pundit Frank Leboeuf likened Liverpool’s midfield three to a ‘masterpiece‘ and Mac Allister is right at the heart of that.

For Argentina, the former Brighton man is just as important, too. Ordinarily, he’d be set to play a big part in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Chile and Colombia.

However, it emerged on Wednesday that Mac Allister sat out of Argentina training upon arrival with his national team colleagues.

And speaking via ESPN Argentina, national team boss Lionel Scaloni says they now need to see how the No.10 will react. There looks to be a possibility that Mac Allister will miss Friday’s game with Chile.

“Alexis did not train because of an overload, a discomfort,” said the manager. “It always happens to us, they come out to make a report. We will wait to see today how he responds.

“It doesn’t change the way we play much because we’ll stay the same but it’s true that it gives us play, set pieces. The rest of the team is more or less decided.”

One more injury issue for Liverpool

As well as Mac Allister, Liverpool now look to have been dealt another injury issue during the international break, too.

As per the official England X account on Wednesday, Harvey Elliott has been sent home from U21 duty this week.

No further details are given, only that Elliott has ‘returned to his club for further medical assessment.’

Obviously, given that the 21-year-old has only played a handful of minutes for Liverpool so far this season, this would not be as a big a blow as losing Mac Allister.

However, with the Champions League and Carabao Cup starting later this month, Slot will need all hands on deck. Hopefully both Alexis and Harvey are fine and ready for Nottingham Forest on September 14th.
