Liverpool got off to the perfect start in the new Premier League season with a 2-0 win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Second-half goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah secured Arne Slot his first-ever professional win for the Reds as Liverpool battled their way past a stubborn Ipswich side to secure all three points on the road.

With Alan Shearer in awe with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance, it was a good day for a number of Liverpool players, who showed they can adapt to Slot’s new system and become real title contenders this season in the Premier League.

And Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai were both impressed with one teammate after the game.

With Micah Richards praising Diaz’s performance in pre-season for Liverpool this summer, the winger was once again impressive this weekend in the Premier League opener against Ipswich.

And heading into the season proper, Diaz will want to show that he can be one of the deadliest attackers in England this campaign, with the forward already off to a good start with a top performance at Portman Road.

Slot can take Diaz’s came to a whole new level at Liverpool

Diaz has been good for Liverpool since joining from FC Porto in 2022, yet the Colombia international is yet to really set the world alight despite a number of impressive performances and runs of form.

Yet that could all change this season under Slot, who has shown at Feyenoord that he can get the best out of his wide-attackers, something that the Dutch coach might be intent on doing with Diaz.

Indeed, the 27-year-old forward is approaching the peak of his powers, and Slot needs to be the man to unlock Diaz’s potential if the Colombia star is tor each that next level with Liverpool.
