Liverpool capped off pre-season with an emphatic 4-1 win against Sevilla, with Arne Slot securing a good victory on his first Anfield outing.

Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz were the stars of the show for Liverpool as the Reds ran riot against the La Liga side, with teenager Trey Nyoni also scoring his first-ever goal for the Merseyside giants having impressed all summer.

With Liverpool taking on Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener next weekend, this afternoon’s result at Anfield will give the Reds the confidence boost their need going into the new season, where Slot will want to make a statement.

And pundit Neil Mellor was left seriously impressed by one Liverpool player.

Mohamed Salah hailed after impressive pre-season displays for Liverpool

Speaking on LFC TV, the former Liverpool striker hailed Mohamed Salah for how the winger has approached pre-season this summer for the Reds, with the Egyptian winger spending nearly a month getting ready for the upcoming campaign.

With Salah once again Liverpool’s best attacker last season, the forward will be tasked with firing Slot and the Reds to success in the new term, and Mellor believes the attacker is ready for what’s to come.

Mellor said on Salah’s performances this pre-season: “He was Liverpool’s best attacking player last season, no doubt about that for goals, assists, chances created. He is a world-class player who missed games for the first time last season. He has been so consistent in terms of playing games.

“This pre-season, he is one of the few who has not had an international tournament. I think that’s where Liverpool benefit. He’s such a professional that his age doesn’t come into it. He is still sharp, he has still got the pace to get in behind defences, and he has got that ability to make things happen.”

Salah could be set for another historic year with Liverpool

Salah has been one of Liverpool’s best performers in pre-season having had the entire summer to adjust to Slot’s style of play and to prepare himself for the new Premier League campaign.

And if Salah can hit the ground running, there’s a real chance that the 32-year-old can enjoy another historic year for Liverpool, with the Reds in with an outside chance of winning silverware in both England and Europe.

Indeed, Salah looked sharp against Sevilla despite not getting his name on the scoresheet, and next weekend against Ipswich, the forward will want to prove how good he still is in the new season.
