Former Liverpool defender Joel Matip is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Anfield at the end of last season.
Matip was in talks with Xabi Alonso over a move to Bayer Leverkusen, having exited Liverpool earlier this summer upon the expiry of his contract.
Aged just 32, he undoubtedly still has plenty to give on the pitch, but Matip could join Liverpool’s coaching staff.
Matip made over 200 appearances for the Anfield club, but was limited to just 14 in all competitions last season.
Injuries prevented the experienced defender from lining out regularly for the Reds in Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign in the dugout.

Two Premier League clubs want to sign ex-Liverpool ace Joel Matip
He is now looking for a new club, with CaughtOffside reporting that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in a deal for the defender.
But the publication added that Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Everton and Fulham are also competing for Matip’s signature.

CaughtOffside noted that his agents have met with all three clubs, who are now fully aware of the player’s situation.
Who will Joel Matip sign for after leaving Liverpool?
A move to Goodison Park for the centre-back would, of course, not go down well at all with Liverpool fans.
Everton are the club’s fiercest rivals, with the Anfield faithful not wanting any of their former players to line out for the Toffees.

But the blue half of Merseyside may not pursue a move for Matip, having just strengthened at centre-back with the signature of Jake O’Brien from Lyon.
A move to Fulham is perhaps more likely, with the Cottagers having just sold Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea.
But a switch to Bayer Leverkusen is also a real possibility, with Matip having spent several years at Schalke 04 before his move to Liverpool in 2016.
