Liverpool have reportedly identified their top summer priority with Arne Slot’s side set to travel to the United States for pre-season in the coming days.

The Reds have been quiet this summer in terms of transfers, with Liverpool yet to make a major signing as the only big-name departures have included the likes of Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian, who all left at the end of their contracts.

Whilst there have been links to the likes of Nico Williams and Adrien Rabiot, Liverpool are yet to pull the trigger on a top signing, with the new Premier League season just under a month away from starting

And it appears that Liverpool have now identified their top target for the summer.

Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio now Liverpool’s main target

According to Correio da Manha, Goncalo Inacio has emerged as Liverpool’s transfer priority, with the Sporting Lisbon defender now available for €45m (£37m) this summer.

Praised as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, the 22-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move to Anfield for quite some time, with Inacio again rumoured with a move to Liverpool this summer.

With the Reds in need of a replacement for Matip, Inacio would tick a lot of boxes for Slot as his first signing as Liverpool manager, with the Portuguese international one of the most exciting defensive talents in all of Europe.

And with Liverpool now making Inacio their main transfer target, there’s a good chance that the Anfield side could launch a bid to sign the Sporting defender, who at £37m could be a bargain.

Inacio could be a dream first signing for new Reds manager Slot

Central defence is a position that Liverpool simply have to invest in this summer with Matip leaving as a free agent, with the Reds needing depth if they’re to make a real attempt at winning silverware in the new season.

And Inacio could be a dream signing for Liverpool, with the Portuguese international ready for a move to the Premier League and showing this summer at the Euros that he has what it takes to play at the highest level in Europe.

Indeed, Inacio and Liverpool could be a match made in heaven, and the defender could be eager to make the move to England if the Reds make an offer soon for the 22-year-old talent.
