Liverpool could look to strengthen their defence in the summer transfer window by signing Goncalo Inacio.

The Sporting Lisbon centre-back’s future is currently up in the air, with Liverpool having not been ruled out of a move for Inacio earlier this year.

It also remains to be seen which areas of the squad new manager Arne Slot wants to strengthen, with the new season rapidly approaching.

The Dutchman is currently looking at some of his current group, with pre-season training now underway at Liverpool.

But it will be some time until the full squad are back together, which could mean Reds fans need to wait some time for any transfer activity.

Sporting Lisbon reveal asking price for Liverpool target Goncalo Inacio

Their pursuit of Inacio has now at least become much clearer, with the Anfield club making progress in talks over a deal for the defender, according to CaughtOffside.

The publication reported that Inacio has a €60million (£51.6million) release clause, but Sporting are now willing to compromise on that fee.

CaughtOffside added that the 22-year-old, who made 49 appearances for Sporting last season, is the current priority for Liverpool.

Liverpool should prioritise Goncalo Inacio in the summer transfer window

A major shake-up shouldn’t be expected at Anfield this summer, but fans cannot rule out the possibility of some movement in both directions.

And central defence could certainly feature heavily on Slot’s mind, with the Reds already one such player down after Joel Matip’s exit.

Moreover, Sepp van den Berg has told Liverpool he wants to leave this summer, while question marks remain over Virgil van Dijk’s exact plans.

Signing a new centre-back should, therefore, be a priority, and Slot could do a lot worse than that player being Inacio.

He just featured for Portugal at Euro 2024, and boasts Champions League experience with his current club, while at 22 he is only going to get better and better.
