Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher shone in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge of the Merseyside club.

The Republic of Ireland shot-stopper was called into action after Anfield number one Alisson was out injured.

And the former certainly didn’t disappoint, with Kelleher’s League Cup heroics among his superb achievements in goal.

There is, however, uncertainty regarding his Liverpool future given that he is likely to play the role of back-up once more this season.

Kelleher doesn’t look like removing Alisson from the number one role any time soon, meaning an emotional exit could be on the cards.

The Irish star has, however, returned to Liverpool for pre-season duty, with Kelleher among the eight players to come back first.

He has been working closely with new goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte, with the long-serving John Achterberg having left Anfield earlier this summer.

“Obviously I worked with John for so many years and hold him in such high regard, I thought he was excellent,” Kelleher told the official Liverpool website.

“It’s great that Fabian has come in now. Looks really good, really interesting, full of energy as well, which is good.

“And probably brings some new ideas as well, which is interesting and good for the goalkeepers to experience, get different opinions on stuff. It’s new and exciting, so looking forward to it.”

Will Caoimhin Kelleher leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window?

The goalkeeper’s latest comments would suggest that talk of a potential exit is nothing more than that, even with Liverpool willing to lose Kelleher as part of a deal to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

But all the Irish ace can do is continue working hard on the training ground, with the second-choice goalkeeper certainly in no danger of losing that role.

However, at 25, Kelleher could be keen on a new adventure, particularly having made just 47 senior Liverpool appearances.

That figure comes despite the talented goalkeeper moving to the Merseyside club as a teenager back in 2015.

Given that situation, the Reds would be foolish to stand in his way if an offer does arrive, but Liverpool have doubled Kelleher’s asking price this summer.
