Liverpool are still assessing the best route of attack in the summer transfer market.

With just six weeks to go until the season begins, the Reds are still yet to make any concrete moves.

For now, full focus appears to be on getting the players back at the AXA Training Centre for pre-season and getting them up to speed under Arne Slot.

Beyond that though, the Liverpool squad could still do with one or two additions, primarily in the defence.

After losing Joel Matip at the end of last season, there is a hole to be filled. With Liverpool insiders now dismissing talk of a move for Riccardo Calafiori, others doors could open.

Murillo open to joining Liverpool

Calafiori had appeared to be a good option for Liverpool. The Reds are seemingly on the lookout for a left-sided defender who could potentially fill in at left-back, too.

However, with the Italian now likely to be off the table, Richard Hughes and the Reds recruitment team will have to look elsewhere.

One player who has been mentioned in the recent past is Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo. Also left-footed, Murillo had a good debut campaign in the Premier League with Forest.

More recently, there were reports that Liverpool had stepped back from interest in Murillo, but the player himself has now spoken out about a potential transfer.

Speaking on the Benja Me Mucho podcast, Murillo admitted that there has been interest in him from Chelsea, and even suggested how much a move could cost.

“‘I don’t know if it’s £70m, but I know there was a buzz of interest,” said the Brazilian, before reeling off a list of clubs he’d be keen to join.

“I’d choose Manchester City but it would be more difficult for me to be a regular starter given the players they have in their squad,” Murillo claimed.

“There’s City, Arsenal as well, who are fighting for the Premier League title. I wouldn’t discard Liverpool either, it would be a good opportunity for me to show my football in a big club.”

For £70m, it would seem mightily unlikely that Liverpool would be interested here. However, there have also been reports that Murillo would cost more like £50m. That could be more palatable.

With other big clubs also keen on the defender, who turned 22 on Thursday, it might be a difficult battle for Liverpool to secure him.

However, as it turns out, the Reds could have one big trump card to play. As Murillo said back in December, his mother is a huge fan of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

“My objective is to come out on top and be the best, whoever I am up against,” said the centre-back. “I have already marked Mo Salah, and my mum loves him!”

Perhaps a quick video chat from the Egyptian King himself to Mrs Murillo Snr could help to sway her son’s mind in the right direction.
