There’s a player who spent six years at Liverpool and Michael Edwards should consider bringing him back this summer.

Out of all the interesting changes at Liverpool this summer, one that probably escapes everyone’s attention is the goalkeeper situation.

It seems very likely that Liverpool’s third choice goalkeeper, Adrian, will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.

The Reds’ second choice goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, could also be on the move with the young goalkeeper now turning 25-years-old and definitely at a stage in his career where he needs to move on.

Michael Edwards should be looking at Peter Gulacsi for Liverpool

With two goalkeepers potentially on their way out of Liverpool in the summer, it’s clear that Michael Edwards and his recruitment team will need to identify new goalkeepers to bring into the squad.

Those goalkeepers need to be relatively experienced and with a proven pedigree. Alisson’s injury record this season was concerning for the Reds, and Liverpool needs someone a bit like Kelleher, who can step in and replace the Brazilian without much notice.

One player who will be reportedly available as per Fabrizio Romano is Peter Gulacsi. The Hungarian fits the profile well in terms of his experience, and he could be an astute option for Liverpool.

Why Peter Gulacsi is the perfect fit for Liverpool

In order to solve the issue Adrian threw up this season with the Spaniard not being homegrown and having to take up one of the non-homegrown spots in the squad, Liverpool should be looking at homegrown solutions as the club’s second and third goalkeeper.

Gulacsi fortunately fits into that category, having spent six years at Liverpool after joining the club’s academy at 18-years-old.

He’s now 34-years-old, and he’s been an outstanding keeper in the Bundesliga over the last few years. Based on reports, it seems he would be open to moving on from RB Leipzig, and Liverpool have a strong connection with the club.

On paper, this is a move that simply makes sense.
