Liverpool and Manchester United remain two of English football’s biggest rivals and Jamie Carragher has claimed the Old Trafford outfit have two players who FSG wouldn’t have even considered.
Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League this season despite dropping out of the title race, while Manchester United have had a poor season but could still win the FA Cup.
Both teams have different strategies in the transfer market it seems. Liverpool prefer going for up and coming talent who tick a lot of data metrics.
United, meanwhile, seem to spend big money on players who are either a risk, or don’t have much in terms of sell-on value.
And speaking alongside Gary Neville on the subject today, Jamie Carragher has said United have actually signed two players who Liverpool wouldn’t have gone anywhere near.

Liverpool simply wouldn’t have signed Casemiro or Christian Eriksen
Speaking on the latest episode of Stick to Football, Carragher and Neville had a conversation about recruitment, with ‘Carra’ making a key point to his work-mate.
“Don’t forget Liverpool’s midfield last season and the reason it was changed, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left because they couldn’t run. Liverpool wouldn’t have bought Casemiro and they probably wouldn’t have bought Eriksen. You have two players who you bought a year ago who can’t run,” Carragher commented.
Neville didn’t fully agree, but instead suggested there is a problem at United that Liverpool don’t have.
“This is a serious conversation about players at Man United and what happens to them. You would have taken Mount over Szoboszlai. You’d have taken Casemiro or Amrabat over Endo. You’d have taken Fernandes over Mac Allister, Kobbie Mainoo over Elliott and you might have taken McTominay over Curtis Jones, then you Christian Eriksen as well. You have six players in that midfield who I think are good players.
“They might not be the best but they are good players. If you gave Jurgen Klopp that six and you swapped those five from Liverpool into Man United, what do you think would happen? That’s my concern, the six players that are there, why is every player dying on their feet at United?”

There’s a multitude of reasons why Manchester United have dipped away in recent times but recruitment is one of them.
As Carragher says here, Liverpool just would not have gone out and spent so much money in fees and wages on two players past their sell by dates.
Eriksen and Casemiro have both been fantastic players for club and country over the years but they have stalled at United and look worse than ever.
Cast your eye to Liverpool, though, and the new additions of Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Endo all bring energy, vibrancy and quality to the middle of the park.
Liverpool and FSG have just got it right in the market while United haven’t. It’s as simple as that really.
