Liverpool could now turn towards the ‘next Guardiola’ after Ruben Amorim looks unlikely to join the club.
For weeks now, it seemed like Liverpool were going to appoint Ruben Amorim as the club’s next manager.
However, after what has transpired in the last 24 hours or so, that is looking very unlikely. Instead, what it seems more and more likely that Liverpool will turn elsewhere in their pursuit.
But if not Amorim, then who? The choices definitely narrow without the 39-year-old Portuguese manager being in the mix.
Although there is one outstanding candidate who could still be available and who would make most obvious sense for Liverpool.

Why Roberto De Zerbi could be the right fit for Liverpool
Out of the remaining possible candidates, Roberto De Zerbi’s name is one that seems to make the most sense for Liverpool.
The Brighton manager has been linked with the job, and he does have a good track record in previous roles.
At Sassuolo, for example, he did a stellar job getting the club to fight above their weight. He’s done the same at Brighton, achieving a historic finish in the top flight for the club and qualifying them to Europe for the first time.
Young and full of fresh ideas, De Zerbi plays with a distinct style of play and is highly regarded in the game.
He may not have had the greatest of seasons with Brighton, but he hasn’t been helped by injuries, and should be given the benefit of the doubt.
Roberto De Zerbi described as the ‘next Guardiola’ and one of the best coaches in Europe
When taking into consideration who Liverpool should appoint it’s always worth listening to what their former players have to say about them.
With Roberto De Zerbi, the feedback generally seems to be positive. Take this example with Roland Sallai, who worked with him at Palermo a while ago.
In an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb, Dominik Szoboszlai’s international teammate for Hungary was full of praise for the Italian manager.
“In Palermo I had my first experience of real football and I savored the true meaning of the competition,” Sallai said.
“It was a training ground for life, we changed many coaches in the space of a few months. I tried to get the best out of each coach, especially from Roberto De Zerbi: one of the best coaches in Europe, he taught me a lot and it’s no coincidence that they call him the ‘new Guardiola’ and when I can I try to stay informed about Palermo’s results.”
