For now, all we know is that Michael Edwards will return to FSG. He will oversee not just Liverpool but it is now expected another club which FSG hopes to add to its portfolio. The exciting development is great news for Liverpool.

However, for now, so much else remains a mystery. Edwards’ resignation from his current role at Ludonautics only becomes active in June. But until then, Liverpool have plenty of things to sort out. Among them is the question of who will succeed Jurgen Klopp.

There aren’t many candidates who are worthy of that role. But one of the outstanding ones is undoubtedly Xabi Alonso. He has that connection with Liverpool, having played at Anfield for many years. On top of that, he’s also got a proven pedigree having completely transformed Bayer Leverkusen’s fortunes recently. He’s clearly a talented coach with an impressive resume.

Maximilian Beier on Liverpool and Xabi Alonso’s radar

If Alonso is to be the next Liverpool manager, one of his first targets could be Maximilian Beier. According to a report by Sports Bild, Beier is being followed by Liverpool among a host of other Premier League clubs. The report also cites that Alonso is ‘very impressed’ with Beier as well.

The 21-year-old plies his trade in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim. He is a Germany U21 international, who has 17 goal contributions in the Bundesliga already this season in 24 matches.

An exciting player, Beier is tall and fast. He can play in a number of different positions in the front three, and does seem like the typical forward Liverpool would look to pursue.

Given that Alonso is also interested in his services, this is definitely a transfer that could happen in the upcoming summer window. Liverpool will probably want to add another attacker to the club’s current options and Beier seems to tick a lot of boxes.
