As a footballer, you want to play every game. Especially games like last weekend between Liverpool and Manchester City. Those games are the ones that help you win league titles and the ones where you can write your name in the history books.

They are also the games where you can challenge yourself and test the limits of your ability by going up against the very best. The games that you can learn and improve the most from.

Liverpool’s players were certainly up for that challenge on Sunday. Manchester City posed a big threat coming to Anfield. Pep Guardiola’s side is one of the best in the world. But they didn’t look like it last weekend. If anything it was Liverpool that showed exciting potential. Especially in the second-half where the Reds dominated Guardiola’s side.

They were very unfortunate not to win the game as well. The Reds created plenty of chances and then there was the controversial refereeing decision not to award a penalty for Jeremy Doku’s high challenge on Alexis Mac Allister.

Jurgen Klopp on Dominik Szoboszlai

Speaking as per the club’s official website, Jurgen Klopp revealed that Dominik Szoboszlai was really desperate to play against Manchester City. The 23-year-old was sidelined with a hamstring problem that ruled him out for several weeks.

“Dom [Szoboszlai] fought himself through, he was so greedy to play and wanted to play desperately. I’m pretty sure in the first half he was like, ‘Wow, that’s a motorway here’ and goes in all directions,” Klopp said.

As Rousing the Kop exclusively revealed, Szoboszlai even travelled back to Hungary to be assessed.

In the end, he returned in Liverpool’s victory against Nottingham Forest, and then featured against Sparta Prague as well, scoring Liverpool’s fifth goal in the match.

Against Manchester City was his first start since coming back from that injury. Szoboszlai didn’t disappoint. He put in a solid performance and was a thorn in Manchester City’s midfield all game.
