Liverpool were missing a number of key players during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
None of this was a shock to Reds supporters, who have become used to seeing their team without certain star players over recent times.
One of those who feels to have been missing for an age is Alisson Becker. The Brazilian hasn’t played since February 4th, missing the last eight games.
Thankfully, Caoimhin Kelleher has stepped up brilliantly in that time. Sunday’s draw was actually the first of those eight matches that Liverpool haven’t won. It was another top performance from Kelleher, with Alisson watching on from his seat behind the dugout. And The Daily Mail captured how the Reds’ No.1 reacted to the game.
Sitting behind his teammates of the Liverpool bench, Alisson was reportedly spotted being ‘animated’ during the game. However, it wasn’t in response to anything Kelleher did, or even Alexis Mac Allister scoring the equaliser from the penalty spot.
Instead, the 31-year-old is claimed to have been ‘clapping exaggeratedly’ as fellow ‘keeper Adrian left his seat to act as an ‘impromptu ball-boy’ during the match. Alisson is said to have ‘exchanged some banter’ with the Spaniard after his handed the ball back to the players on the pitch. Miss you, Ali.
Alisson spotted at Anfield
It’s good to hear that Alisson was actually at Anfield on Sunday. Very little has been seen of the Brazil international ever since his injury more than a month ago.
While other injured players were present at the Carabao Cup final in February, Alisson was not in attendance.
As a result, it feels like it really has been a long time since we’ve seen the big man.
In terms of on the pitch though, Kelleher has made it so that Alisson really hasn’t been missed all that much. As arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, Ali has incredibly big gloves to fill.
But having been involved in seven wins on the bounce up until Sunday, Kelleher has filled them with relative – and surprising – ease.

While highlighting just what a good a back-up the Irishman is, his displays have also shown how much Kelleher has learnt from Alisson.
At times, his ability to save things one-on-one has clearly resembled the No.1. Having been working closely together for years now, Caoimh has obviously picked a lot up.
Nevertheless, it will be great to finally have Alisson back out on the pitch once again. Prior to his injury he had arguably been Liverpool’s best performer once again this season.
With the business end of the campaign still to come, Alisson can still play his part.
