Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool still doesn’t quite feel like a reality. It will probably take a while to sink in once he actually leaves his position at the end of the season. Until then as fans we will probably try to live in blissful ignorance of the reality.
However, the club itself cannot afford to do that. Liverpool now must already be actively pursuing the right candidate to Klopp’s throne at Anfield. The favoured candidate at the moment seems to be Xabi Alonso.
The former Liverpool midfielder is obviously hugely admired by the club’s supporters. Alonso was a cult hero during his playing spell at Liverpool. But he’s also got a really impressive track record as a manager. Especially since arriving at Bayer Leverkusen.
Currently, with just ten games to go, Alonso has a ten point lead over Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga. He has also been unbeaten in 34 games in all competitions this season – which is a new German record – beating Pep Guardiola’s previous best of 32 games with Bayern Munich.
However, while Alonso’s resume is exceptional. He is not the only possible candidate for Liverpool. The Reds can’t put their eggs all in one basket just yet.

Barcelona now trying to exploit Ruben Amorim situation
According to The Independent, Barcelona are currently trying to hire Ruben Amorim as the club’s next manager with Xavi set to leave at the end of the season. The report claims that the Catalans are trying to exploit Liverpool and Bayern’s preference for Alonso, and thus hoping to gain an advantage in their pursuit of Amorim.
The 39-year-old has of course been linked with a move to Liverpool as well. He’s done a brilliant job in charge of Sporting CP, and he would be another outstanding candidate for the job to succeed Klopp.
However, if Liverpool do want to lure Amorim to Anfield, it’s clear that they are now going to face a huge obstacle in Barcelona. All that means is that the club simply have to act quickly.
