It isn’t Liverpool this season, if they don’t leave it until the final minute. Against Nottingham Forest, Jurgen Klopp’s side left it as late as possible. Until the 99th minute, it seemed like Liverpool were going to drop two precious points in the title race.
But then along came Darwin Nunez and Alexis Mac Allister. The latter sent a sublime dinked pass into the former, and the rest is history. Nunez went wheeling off to celebrate, much to the dismay of Nottingham Forest supporters, who had taunted him for the best part of half an hour as soon as he entered the pitch.
Make no mistake about it, this was a statement of intent from Liverpool. This was a game Jurgen Klopp’s side absolutely needed to win. And they dug in and got the result. That is the sign of a top team, and that is the sign of a team capable of competing on all four fronts. It also helps that Liverpool have a player like Darwin Nunez.

Jurgen Klopp on Darwin Nunez
As soon as Nunez entered the pitch against Nottingham Forest today he was surrounded by a hostile atmosphere. The 24-year-old was greeted with chants likening him to Andy Carroll by the home supporters.
But even that didn’t throw the Uruguayan off. He continued running up and down the pitch and causing problems to Forest’s defence for every second he was on the pitch.
Jurgen Klopp was really impressed by Nunez in his post-match press conference and signalled him out for special praise. While also claiming that he managed to silence the crowd as well with his winning goal right at the end.
“It is super important, it is always super decisive and deserved. Before people start singing that [Andy Carroll] song more often, this is the best way to quiet it. He was really in the game for us,” Klopp said as per the Liverpool ECHO’s Paul Gorst.
