Cometh the hour, cometh the man. When Liverpool are down and out, all you need is Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan has come to Liverpool’s rescue time and time again this season.
From that late surge of goals against Newcastle United at the start of the season to this special moment against Nottingham Forest. A moment which could quite easily become one of the most significant ones in Liverpool’s race for the Premier League title.
For almost 99 minutes, it seemed like Liverpool just weren’t going to get that victory. Nothing seemed to go right for Jurgen Klopp’s side. But then out of nowhere, the Reds were able to conjure something special. Alexis Mac Allister sent a sublime looped pass into the path of Nunez, who simply could not miss.
The rest is history. Quite literally. Liverpool wrote history, making this the first win at the City Ground in the Premier League for the Reds. Meanwhile, Nunez himself also broke a record that has stood since the 2006/07 season.

Darwin Nunez now a record holder for Liverpool
Scoring in the 99th minute means Darwin Nunez has now scored the latest goal ever scored by a Premier League player for Liverpool since records began in 2006/07. That is according to the BBC, who cites Opta records, which started in 2006.
The precise time for Nunez’s goal was 98 minutes and 35 seconds. That is now the record to beat for any Liverpool player who hopes to take the title from Nunez to score the latest goal ever scored by the club in the Premier League.
The remarkable thing is that this isn’t the first stoppage time goal Nunez has scored this season. It’s actually his third. And another one against Newcastle United was also a winner.
He’s clearly got a knack for doing it. And Liverpool will hope more are left in the bank this season. Because Klopp’s side may just need it.
