Liverpool cruised past Southampton in midweek as their young stars once again showed what they were all about under the lights at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp gave a number of young players their chance against the Saints. Lewis Koumas got a start as did James McConnell in midfield, while Bobby Clark also played the full 90 minutes.

Off the bench, there were impressive cameo appearances by the likes of Jayden Danns and Kaide Gordon, with Danns in particular catching the eye with two well-taken goals.

Danns has been making quite the name for himself in the academy and seems to have taken to first-team football like a duck to water as well.

And speaking about Danns on the latest episode of The Rest is Football, Gary Lineker admitted he was super impressed with the Liverpool teen.

“It just shows you the depth they have in terms of their young talent. I saw Jayden Danns’ post match interview where he said ‘the best day of my life’. To score two goals, I thought he did really well when he came on in the Carabao Cup final. Brilliant. Klopp trusts them. To beat a side going really well in the Championship 3-0 with basically a youth team is pretty impressive.”

Jayden Danns impressing already for Liverpool

Some young players just look like they have the it factor from the very off and Jayden Danns looks like being one of those players already.

His two goals in midweek were both very well taken strikes and had the hallmarks of a player who knows how to play the striker position already at such a young age.

For someone like Gary Lineker to be giving you praise as a striker, then you must be doing something right and it looks like Danns has the world at his feet now.

Of course, a lot of hard work is ahead of him. He’s still young, raw, and learning the game.

But all the right signs are there for Danns and if he continues on this trajectory, it’s going to save Liverpool a fortune in the future.
