‘Phenomenal’ 23-year-old Liverpool player predicted to win the Ballon d’Or in next six years

Even though Liverpool are one of the most successful clubs in European football, only one player has ever won football’s most prestigious individual honour – the Ballon d’Or – while playing for the club. That player was Michael Owen, who claimed that honour in 2001.

Since then the likes of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah have come close. But Liverpool’s players have never quite been able to emulate Owen’s success. Not even someone like Virgil van Dijk or Salah, when Liverpool absolutely dominated European and Premier League football at the height of Jurgen Klopp’s era.

Unfortunately, in the last decade, there has been a hegemony between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The two of them have fought each other for years to be the recipient of the prestigious award. However, that could soon change. There is now a new hierarchy in football, and Ronaldo’s and Messi’s influence is fading away.

Dominik Szoboszlai predicted to win the Ballon d’Or

Recently, 90Min did a simulation on Football Manager to predict who would win the Ballon d’Or in the next ten years. They shared their findings on a Facebook post, and according to their simulation there was a surprise name on the list in Dominik Szoboszlai.

According to Football Manager, the Hungarian wins the accolade during the 2029/30 season while still playing for Liverpool.

Of course it’s a Football Manager prediction so you have to take it with a pinch of salt. But Szoboszlai has been exceptional since arriving at Liverpool. He is still only 23-years-old. During the 2029/30 season, he will be 29-years-old and still very much in the prime of his career.

Who knows what the future will hold by then, but it would be a great achievement if Szoboszlai can eventually emulate the above predictions. He’s got the potential to do it, and has recently been described as ‘phenomenal’ by ESPN pundit, Steve Nicol. It’s also about time a Liverpool player was recognised for the award. Hopefully, we may not even have to wait six years.
