Out of all the Liverpool youngsters who came on the pitch by far the least experienced of the lot was Jayden Danns. The youngster had only turned 18-years-old last month. He’d only made his debut a few days prior becoming the 11th youngest player to debut in the Premier League against Luton.
Yet Danns was not fazed by the occasion. He rose to the challenge and produced a brilliant performance that he can be extremely proud of. Especially considering he became only the second Liverpool player to make his second appearance for the club in a major cup final after Ian Rush in 1981, who also came on for Liverpool in a League Cup final.
Danns caused Chelsea plenty of problems, and as Jurgen Klopp pointed out he even had the chance to score a couple of goals. With luck on this side, he could have easily made this an even more special occasion. But regardless, Danns can be proud of his contributions and the way he took to the game like a duck to water.

What Stephen Warnock spotted about Jayden Danns
Speaking on Liverpool’s official podcast, former academy graduate Stephen Warnock highlighted Danns for special praise. Especially with the rhythm and energy that he entered the Wembley turf. He also spotted how he immediately got the fans excited.
“As soon as Jayden Danns came on the pitch, he was offside but he didn’t know it and he goes through on a little jinking run, gets his shot away and the crowd lifted,” Warnock said.
“Straight away every time you could see him, get him on the ball. I want the ball, creating opportunities for himself, closing down and getting cheers from the crowd.
“You could see everything they did was getting more and more confident.”
Warnock is right. Danns grew into the game and caused Chelsea’s defence problems. That alone is a huge credit for a player who prior to this had only player a few minutes of football at senior level. But it’s a testament to his talent that Danns never once looked out of place. And that he’s already been able to impact senior matches, even though he’s had such little experience at the top level.
