Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he had a ‘little argument’ with someone in the Liverpool crowd last night.
For anyone who watched the game on television, they’ll have seen Klopp angrily remonstrating at something or someone behind him in Anfield’s Main Stand.
With Liverpool behind to Luton Town at the time, there was palpable frustration from within the ground. As he occasionally does, the Reds manager hit back at that in the moment.
And speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Klopp has shared what happened during the heated exchange.
“In the first half I had a little argument with a guy in the stand because when Harvey [Elliott] played a very average pass to Lucho [Diaz], didn’t arrive, you hear the people saying ‘why are you playing that’,” explained the 56-year-old.
“But he’s last man standing! Our last man standing. They needed support. There’s no need for… I don’t know who plays the pass and can usually do it better… But the boys need to ignore it as well. Because they could think we miss a few players but second half I don’t think anybody thought about the players missing.”
Klopp rails at angry supporter
At the moment that Klopp turned and gave this one supporter an earful in the crowd it felt like things were starting to unravel for Liverpool.
Missing so many key players, a goal down at home to a relegation threatened side and now the manager arguing with his own fans. It didn’t look good.
Thankfully, everything changed in the second-half. With the stadium realising that they were going to have to help the boys out, positivity and energy returned.
In the end, Luton just couldn’t live with that and Liverpool steamrollered them out of the way.
Going back to Jurgen’s little ‘argument’ though, you can see both sides. Of course from the boss’ point of view he doesn’t want to hear this kind of dissent towards players who are now taking on greater importance.

Elliott is not Mohamed Salah, but amid all the injuries he’s now a big player for Liverpool. He needs to feel that support from everybody. So does everyone else in red.
But at the same time, fans are allowed to be frustrated. Having put themselves in such a good position, it had looked like last night injuries were about to derail Liverpool’s title challenge.
It wasn’t frustration simply out of nowhere either. The Reds actually played well in that first-half, but were doing simple things wrong to let themselves down mainly in the final third. That can be difficult to watch and when there’s so much on the line, sometimes it boils over.
All’s well that ends well though, and it was good to see Klopp smiling about it at full-time. We’d suspect that the fan in question feels a touch foolish heading into work today, mind you!
