Liverpool will be pleased with the victory over Brentford on Saturday. Going into the game it felt like a potential banana skin. However, the Reds eased their way into it and in the end dominated their opponent despite being away from home.
Brentford never really looked like they were going to get back into the game. Even though the injuries and knocks at times threatened to thwart Liverpool’s rhythm, that never became the case.
One of the main reasons why was thanks to the performance of Alexis Mac Allister. For one of the first occasions in his Liverpool career, the Argentine was able to play in a more advanced position. With Wataru Endo covering the holding midfield role, it meant Jurgen Klopp was able to push Mac Allister further forward – and that worked a treat.
Speaking after the game, Mac Allister admitted he has been content playing the number six role, and that he would be open to playing in another different position for Liverpool.

Alexis Mac Allister playing a new position
Speaking to TNT after the game, Alexis Mac Allister was asked about playing in the number six position. Suprisingly, Mac Allister said he liked playing in that role, but he admitted he was open to playing in other positions. Including playing as a number nine.
“I like it. I always say that my idea is to understand football and be helpful for the team. Wherever they need me. Six, ten or nine …I will always try my best and I’m feeling really good.”
That’s an interesting comment from Mac Allister. He’s never really played as a nine before in his senior career. Although he definitely showed touches of a world-class striker the way he took Mohamed Salah’s pass inside the Brentford penalty area and slotted the ball home.
He’s clearly comfortable playing in more advanced positions. While he’s done well in that number six role as well. It looks like he is happy either way, which is the most important thing.
